What documents you need to register an imported car

Customs clearance is only the first step. To put the car on the road, you’ll need a handful of other documents — some come out of the clearance process, others are obtained separately, in Moldova.

The customs declaration

The first required document: a validated customs declaration confirming the duties were paid. Without it, the car can’t be registered — see how customs clearance works for the full process.

The car’s documents from its country of origin

The title or registration certificate from the country the car was brought from, in the original. If it’s issued in a language that isn’t accepted directly, a translation may be needed.

RCA insurance

Compulsory third-party motor insurance (RCA) is required before registration — without it, the car can’t legally be driven.

Technical inspection

Most vehicles go through a technical inspection before registration, to confirm the car is roadworthy.

Registration itself

With the documents above, registration is handled at the Public Services Agency (ASP), which issues the plates and the registration certificate. Exact requirements can vary — it’s worth confirming them directly with ASP before your appointment.

How we help

We tell you in advance which documents your specific car will need, and help you have them ready by the time it clears customs, not after. Send a request and we’ll start from there.
